NURSING COUNCIL OF KENYA (NCK) EXAMINATION POLICY

St. Luke's College prepares students for the official Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) examinations, which are mandatory for registration as a Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse (KRCHN). Our comprehensive exam preparation ensures students meet all NCK requirements.

Examination Categories

  • KRCHN Final Examinations - Taken after completing the 3-year program
  • Clinical Assessments - Practical evaluations throughout the course
  • Continuous Assessment Tests (CATs) - Regular theoretical evaluations

Examination Schedule

NCK examinations are conducted twice yearly, typically in June and November.

Examination Requirements

  • Completion of all course modules and clinical hours
  • Valid student identification from St. Luke's College
  • Payment of NCK examination fees (KShs. 5,000 per sitting)
  • Submission of completed NCK examination forms
  • Approval from the College Examination Board

Examination Content

The NCK examination consists of two parts:

Theoretical Examination

  • Multiple choice questions (200 items)
  • Short answer questions (5 of 8)
  • Essay questions (2 of 4)
  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Pass mark: 50% in each paper

Practical Examination

  • Clinical skills assessment
  • Patient case management
  • Medication administration
  • Emergency procedures
  • Pass mark: 60% overall

Examination Rules & Regulations

  • Students must arrive 30 minutes before examination time with valid ID
  • No electronic devices permitted in examination rooms
  • Strict adherence to NCK examination code of conduct
  • Cases of examination malpractice will lead to disqualification
  • Special needs accommodations must be requested in advance

Examination Results & Certification

  • Results are released within 8 weeks of examination
  • Successful candidates receive NCK registration certificates
  • Unsuccessful candidates may re-sit after 6 months
  • Maximum of three attempts allowed for each examination
  • Official transcripts available upon request from NCK

Important Examination Notes:

  • All students must register for NCK examinations through the college
  • Late registration attracts a penalty fee of KShs. 1,000
  • Clinical assessment marks contribute 30% to final examination score
  • Students with outstanding fees will not be registered for examinations
  • Examination timetables are posted 4 weeks prior to exam dates
